Who are we? What are our qualifications?
ScholarSkills Learning Center was established by Rev. Brian Vieira in 2001 to help students to master the foundations of excellence in reading, writing, and arithmetic. Rev. Vieira is a graduate of the prestigious stuyvesant H.S. he is a certified New York State Master teacher with 13 years of experience in the board of Education. REv. Vieira actively tutors and works with students personally. his staff includes qualified tutors and teachers who have perfect scores on the regents and extraordinary scores on the SAT. your children will get the best to prepare for every test.
What Do we offer? (How can we help your child?)
we help students to gain confidence and to achieve excellence by teaching them how to understand their classwork and homework. this helps students to prepare for classroom and state exams. your child will receive one to one personalized direct attention from our patient, professional tutors.
What about Kumon?
Kumon is a wonderful worksheet program for kids who DO NOT NEED TUTORING. Kumon provides worksheets but not personalized tutoring. If your child is between grades 2-4 and is self-motivated and does not need any help from a qualified teacher and tutor, then Kumon is a good place to start.
What is the process for my child's success? (how does this work?)
First, we will give your child a comprehensive diagnostic exam to reveal the areas of weakness that need immediate attention. we will share this information with you and also with your child's teachers--with your permission.
After discussing the diagnostic report with you, we will work with you to create a tutorial assistance package that is effective for your child and affordable to your family. Once we agree on a tutorial package, your child will begin his or her individualized plan for success.
When and how often will my child be attending tutoring?
depending on the individual plan and package, your child will normally attend at least two days per week. Each time he or she comes, they will receive two intensive 40 minute sessions of tutoring. This equals an hour and 20 minutes per day. 40 minute sessions mirror class time in school and allow students maximum focus and attentiveness. so students come and stay for at least an hour and 20 minutes each time they attend. And they attend for at least two days per week.
What are your hours of operation?
We are open monday to thursday from 3:30 to 5:30. Students come at a scheduled time during those hours. Since each child's plan is personalized, the tutorial session begins when the student arrives. If a child misses a session, and we are notified ahead of time, that student gets to make up the session at a later time.
how long will this take? and how will I know if tutoring is actually working?
tutoring takes time. new material and habits have to be taught. but you should begin seeing improvement in grades and test scores within the first 6 weeks.
HOWEVER, YOUR CHILD WILL TELL YOU IMMEDIATELY IF HE OR SHE IS LEARNING AND GAINING CONFIDENCE. STUDENTS normally TELL THEIR PARENTS WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK HOW MUCH MORE THEY ARE LEARNING.
I'm still not sure if this will work? can I get a free session?
Absolutely! we want you and your child to be comfortable. We don't want you to take risks. schedule a free session, and let us give your child the help he or she needs without any obligation on your part.
What type of success have you had with students?
our students normally improve on their test scores and grades within the first semester of tutoring. several of our recent students have gotten into top colleges. other students have been accepted into top middle and high schools. But our best proof comes from testimonials by parents just like yourself. Please click on the testimonials link at the top of the page. Or click here to see those testimonials now.
Ok. How much does all of this cost?
tutorial packages range from $300 to $395 per month. The package of $395 gives parents 10 tutorial hours which lowers the hourly fee to less than $40 per hour. But Depending on their child's tutorial needs, parents can also pay $55 per session, and purchase as many sessions as suits their budgets. Parents can also pay weekly or biweekly based on what is most convenient for their families. we hope that this flexibility will make it easier for families to make the investment that their children need.
how can I get started or at least get some more information about your programs, and perhaps a free session for my child?
Thank you for asking. you can click here to register on line to request more information and a free session, or you can call directly at (718) 258-4647. You can also stop by and request a meeting with our director Rev. Vieira.
How to Improve your child's Reading Comprehension
What parents are saying:
“Our son had been in promotion in doubt status for sometime until I took him to Scholarskills. Within just a few weeks he had made great progress and his teachers kept telling me how impressed they were. He actually started to show other kids in school how to do math problems more effectively just like the way they were teaching him in ScholarSkills. He is doing really well now and we thank God and the staff at ScholarSkills.”
Minister Diana Smallwood
My son enjoyed a phenomenal summer in the ScholarSkills program! It is truly amazing to see how in just a few short weeks, he firmly grasped concepts that he struggled with during the past academic school year. He developed a true love of learning in the uniquely supportive, yet challenging ScholarSkills environment that I am sure will serve him well in the coming semester. My son is returning to school this September armed with new vocabulary words, the ability to tackle long division with ease and a sense of confidence in himself that is priceless! Thank you Scholar Skills!

“Likes it better than school. He loved it here.”
“In my desperate search for a tutor, I was recommended to Scholarskills Christian Academy after school tutoring program. After a one and one With Rev. Vieira discussing my children’s different needs, they started what would soon become a very successful journey. My Daughter was struggling with math and My Son needed SAT Prep. The progress they made was very evident in the first few months. My daughter’s Math grades went from 70’s to high 90’s. She is now very confident with her math skills. My son’s vocabulary and writing ability soared. I really appreciated the personalize treatment they received. My son is an athlete and his schedule made it difficult for him to be at tutoring twice or three times as week as need to attain his goals, but Pastor was able to work with us, during the school year and summer. The Online program during the summer was phenomenal and my son was able work one on one with pastor using an interactive program. He has taken the SAT and did an extraordinary Job. My daughter continues to excel in her Math and will be starting her SAT Prep in January 2013. Pastor I pray for God to continue to bless you and your vision for excellence. I strongly recommend this after school program.”
Ms. Michelle White
“I found that being tutored in scholar skills really had the positive effect I was looking for on my Cuny assessment test. My tutor, Mr. Nash was great in terms of assisting me and I was able to learn things I never knew coming into the school. Each time I came it was never tedious and proved to be exciting to learn.”
“Reverend Vieira: I want to thank you for helping our teenage daughter pass her High School Global and US History Regents. We only had a short amount of time to work with, however you remarkably worked with her to accomplish success! I will definitely recommend Scholar Skills Christian Academy.”
Ms. Debbie Lewis
“Nicholas and family will like to thank Pastor Vieira and faculty on the tutoring of prepping Nick for the Sat exam. He was so well prepared that he increased his score by 260. Again we want to Thank You for the success.”

“I would recommend Scholarskills because each student is provided with an individualized, diagnostic approach to learning which provides for instruction that supports intervention as well as acceleration. Scholarskills faculty have high expectations for all students. Students' needs are continuously addressed while their strengths are continuously challenged. They build progress and success one student at a time.”
Barbara Sanders, Retired Principal
“I would recommend ScholarSkills because it helped my son tremendously. My son was 9 when he started and wasn't doing to well in school. I was recommended by a friend and a year and a half later my son is doing great, getting a 90 and above thanks to ScholarSkills !!!!”
Ms. Lorena Notaro
They provide quality education designed for your child as an individual. Children are given the attention and discipline needed to foster learning. My child loves to go to school and has learned more in his first 2 months than he learned in 6 months of public school.
