American History: H.O.T.-DOCS
Higher Ordered Thinking Through Documents
Ten Documents That Every Student Should Know and Understand!

Picture

Higher Ordered Thinking through Documents (or H.O.T.-DOCS) is a document-based interdisciplinary curriculum that helps students to think critically, and to read and write effectively.  H.O.T.-Docs is an interactive, guided analysis of the ten transformational primary source documents which are the foundations of our freedoms. Our goal is to make these documents easier to analyze and to understand so that teachers, parent-educators, and students could learn about America's great history directly from its original sources.

The Documents are:
  1. The Magna Carta
  2. The Mayflower Compact
  3. Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" Speech
  4. The Declaration of Independence
  5. The Articles of Confederation
  6. Federalist 10 (From the Federalist Papers)
  7. Federalist 51 (From the Federalist Papers)
  8. The Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution
  9. The Preamble of the Constitution of the United States
  10. The Constitution of the United States

Professional Development Seminars for Teachers

Since an educated citizenry is the key to perpetuating our republican form of government, we believe that all students should be completely familiar with the original documents which express the ideas and ideals of our nation's founders.  To this end, ScholarSkills offers curriculum (H.O.T.-DOCS) and professional development workshops to assist teachers in the implementation of civics education which prepares students to understand and thoughtfully apply America's founding principles. Our workshops show teachers how to use the founding documents to help students to learn about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. To learn more about our professional development workshops, please contact us by email at [email protected], or you may contact us directly (and toll free) at
